Elann put Gjestal Naturgarn up for sale on Tuesday. I thought I'd see how it felts so I could order enough for any felting projects I came up with. Okay... don't ask me why I decided to try it with white. Everybody knows that white wool doesn't always felt the best. I'm happy to report... in this case it did pretty well. See for yourself in the before and after photos. I thought I'd try a potholder ala Pampered Chef.
I learned a couple of lessons. First... don't do potholders in white. What was I thinking?! Second, next time I'll whip stitch the opening shut with thin cotton yarn so that it will felt evenly. The top part, above the hole, didn't felt as much and you can see it's all wavy. I think it'd be nice with a contrast color around the edges also. This is only a couple of times through the washer though, so it felted pretty well for a white yarn. I used it the other night to take pizza out of the oven on what else, but a Pampered Chef stone (I felt, no pun intended, it was only fair since I stole the design idea from them) and it worked just swell. Conclusions? I think I need several more balls of Naturgarn for further felting experiements. I have about five sweater's worth of this yarn kitted up already, but I need to get two more (one for Dan, one for me) anyway, so why not add some for felting?! Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
On the UFO front... I'm finally finishing up the Vittadini Marissa Cabled Pullover from Vol. 20
It's a pretty grey day here in here in Germany so there wasn't a lot of light. Bailey thought she'd get in on the photo. What's that you say? It looks different than the pattern? I just didn't think I could pull off the uneven cables. I'm not that cool. Sure enough someone would think I messed up so I went with a more symmetrical look. It would have just taken all the joy out of the "I made it myself moment" to have someone look at me... then at the uneven cables.... and then at me again with a puzzled look on their face while they were thinking I must have been drinking too much wine while I was knitting.
I'm also not going to do the cables on the sleeve. I'm a plain vanilla kinda girl. Less is more in my book. I cast on the first sleeve last night and have all intentions of finishing it today.
